Vocation

Well, i finally bought the plane ticket this past week to go to Missouri in January and spend a week with the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles. $500 was a big chunk of change, but i know that the spiritual worth of such a trip will be more valuable the monetary amount i had to pay. I hope the Lord gives me some further direction from this coming trip, because if they are not the religious order i am eventually to join, i don't know where else to look. There are only a couple of really traditional women religious orders in the U.S. (sigh) may God give me guidance and teach me not to worry.

Tsk tsk...worrywort. God takes care of every little thing we need...even a toilet paper crisis. If the infinite God of the universe is so good that he will providentially arrange a box of baby wipes to be in your luggage in your hour of need, don't you think He'll show you the path He has set for you? Just pray and go to confession often. He is good.

I'll pray for you! If the Benedictine nuns are anything like the Benedictine monks, I'd say you've chosen well. Such a sensible order. The perfect "via media" in many respects.

If you don't feel at home with the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles might I suggest another Benedictine Convent but one in England: St. Cecilia’s Abbey, Appley Rise, Ryde, Isle of Wight PO33 1LH tel: 01983 562602. They are a cloistered Benedictine Abbey which is aggregated to the Solesmes Congregation. They are good at attracting and keeping vocations so it is a thriving community. They keep to the traditional monastic offices and everything is sung in Latin to chant.

The Abbey web site is here:

Some interesting remarks about the style of worship can be found in a priest’s blog here:

I pray you may find the right community for you in which to serve the Lord

I am also interested in a vocation with a traditional religious community. Here is a group that you might find helpful:

Also do you know about the traditional Benedictine nuns who are being founded nearby the Clear Creek monks in Oklahoma? They just started in 2006 and hope to become cloistered. I posted about them at the Yahoo group above. Hope to see you there!

Oh, there's also some Benedictine nuns in Vermont, which I see is where you live. They appear to live a traditional monastic life, and I believe their mass is the Novus Ordo in Latin. http://www.ihmwestfield.com/

To all those women who are searching for a traditional monastic community- I suggest you contact/visit the nuns in New Mexico- they chant the full divine office (in english), wear the habit, and are contemplative.
